Exercise 5) Editing

Lecture:

For this week, there was no lecture and tutorial due to public holiday, Malaysia Day. We had a day off but the exercise was put up on TiMes by Mr. Vinod. Therefore, we had to complete the exercise on our own during the weekend. During last week's lecture, Mr. Vinod also did roughly explain what to do and expect for the exercise on TiMes which is taking a series of 5 pictures.

Feedback:
The edited image conformed to the instructions delivered via youtube. The choice of image was good. The print looked good as well. Well done. The series of five unfortunately was not very strong as a topic area. You need to really select a more appropriate and interesting topic area.

Reflection
Experience
There was no lecture for this week but my overall experience in doing this exercise was quite smooth besides the fact that the weather and lighting I shoot under had a lot of shadows. In my series, I wanted to create a set of pictures that has a distinct difference in values of different objects, which means contrast. I chose one of the picture to edit using Photoshop to slowly familiarise with using the software.

Observation
I observed that in my pictures, there are principles like dominance, alignment and contrast. I tried taking pictures from very different angles and the objects perspective changes which creates an interesting picture. When I was playing around using Photoshop, I realised that after increasing the brightness and contrast, the picture is more dramatised but without losing its details but this is just to try out as I did not apply it.

Findings
From this exercise, I learned that the point of interest must be clear and dominant within the frame. I also understand that a series of picture must have a right balance in consistency and variation. Using Photoshop can be a bit tricky but after trying out different adjustments, I slowly got the hang of it and also with the help of some video references. We must make sure the impact is in our photographs. We should not waste time on looking for a topic and start with objects around us that we never thought could create an interesting picture. This can give us inspiration.
