Final Video
Instructions: Assignment 02 requires you to propose how you will be creating your video explaining about the contextual understanding which you have discovered in assignment 01 research.

Plot Synopsis (revised)
In the year of 2099, the world has revolutionized into the division of humans using colours, red, blue and yellow. Families are catagorized as either red, blue or yellow. People are allergic to the opposite colours of their own therefore they wear gloves to prevent skin contact with other families. A girl, from the blue family, who is very obedient because the children are raised in a very strict and squared society, they are required to have the same mindset and same behaviour. Every night, she always had nightmares and in the morning, she chants a code without knowing the reason why. One fine day, She received a parcel wrote - To: 3 RY. The moment she opened the parcel, she saw a time travelling machine where she was so curious about. Without thinking of the consequences, she pressed the button and travelled back in time to year 2026. She saw the exact same scene as she dreamed about every night and met 2 girls who experienced the same as her. The scene shows colours separating to red, blue and yellow. By instinct, they decided to paint it white. After painting, time is up and it's time for them to return to 2099. History was undo and the present and future changed. She removed her gloves, hoping nothing happens and nothing happened. It turns out that they are not allergic to each other, but they are being divided and catagorized as different individuals. Their rebellious behaviour changed the world and now people with different colours live together. While the 3 girls no longer belong to any colour, they are white which means they are all colours. The code was indicating that 3 girls and she was to find them, RY meant the other 2 girls were from red and yellow.

Leanne – Faye Tan  (b. 10 December 1999, Malaysia) is currently a student at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus studying Foundation in Design. She made a choice of taking up this module (Introduction To Photography) as an elective to challenge herself and learn something that will definitely benefit her further studies. She always has a fondness towards photographs that holds a story or meaning behind it because photograph not only captures the aesthetics but also tells a story that fail to put into words. Her take on photography is to document individuals and the surroundings without affecting the nature of it. She had also developed great passion for black and white photography.

About The Photographs

“ISOLATION”.  Alone and set apart from the background. I always have a strong desire and need to work alone. This has led my subject matter of my series work to migrate towards individual souls shot against minimal background, finding solace from isolated strangers. My aim for this series work was to shoot strangers candid and without me (photographer) being seen so that the nature of the scene remains unaffected. The process of developing these pictures was basically setting up my camera at a chosen place and stalk until a subject matter appears in the frame. What I do find interesting from this social observation point of view is that it has fundamentally changed the behavior of the individual, to well, make them seem more individual. It makes me ponder on how every individual has a story to tell. And as my own fate and destiny would have it, isolation has ironically turned out to be the key to my own personal happiness, strength and creativity. This body of my work directly mirrors my own personality. Miraculously, the end result has become the sharing and expressing of my own self to the world through my solitude, simplicity and joy.

As for the technicalities, all the photographs were taken in between morning and the afternoon. When harsh shadows is intended, I shoot more towards the afternoon but when I want to achieve a subtle picture, I shoot earlier in the morning where the sun is not so glaring yet. The venues I shoot at are usually very minimal as I did not want excessive ornaments in the picture so that it does not divert the viewer’s attention. My series includes individuals in different motions, like walking, running and sitting. The range of aperture I shoot in was between F11 to F13 because I wanted a wider depth of field. As for the ISO, it ranges from 400 to 5000 which gives an abundance of light which I can easily underexpose it. Which bring me to the shutter speed, varies from 1/160 to 1/1000. In conclusion, this series has not only taught me useful skills of a photographer but also helped me see a different perspective of the world and helped me learn the impact a camera can convey.

Core Design Gallery

Debunking the Myth
Debunking the Myth is a curated exhibition of selected figurative paintings from the renowed Aliya and Farouk Khan (AFK) collection. It is Core Design Gallery's first showcase of a private collection.

This exhibition seeks to establish the role of the figure in the development of contemporary Malaysian art, a topic which has not been fully explored until now. Through a curated exhibiton and accompanying critical essay, audiences are not only exposed to the developments in this genre through the different periods of contemporary art, from the 1980's to the 1990's and twenty first century, but also the various ways the figure has been represented
